Getting married is a special occasion that marks a major milestone for many. It is often one of the top two things people look back on as the happiest moment of their lives. The second could quite possibly be eating our cakes…..just kidding (smile).  We recently had the honor of creating this special cake for Karen & Antonio’s wedding at Iglesia Adventista, in Hyattsville, MD. These two are the epitome of young, true love and we can’t wait to watch them grow as a couple throughout the years. We look forward to celebrating anniversaries and so much more with this adorable couple.

The couple reached out to us via a referral from a fellow cake artist (thank you, Rebekah!!!). Grateful to meet the couple, we set up a time to meet them to go over their options.  Once we met the sweet couple, we knew our design and cake had to be as sweet and strong as the love they have for each other.  While discussing the vision they had for their wedding reception, they informed us that their chosen wedding colors were royal blue, white and silver and their chosen flower was the white rose. Based off that information, we created three draft designs for their review, and after a couple of discussions, the couple decided on a seven-tiered beauty that served 250 guests.

Their wedding cake stood over three feet tall and weighed…… a lot!! The design included clusters of white sugar roses and pale pink peonies as beautiful accents. Our favorite part of the cake was definitely the “love” cut out on the double barrel 8″ tier.  This simple design detail expressed, in art form, how the two of them felt for each other and encapsulated what is central to any great marriage.  It was a simple, pure and innocent reminder of what the world needs now. Their chosen flavors were our Classic Vanilla and Dirty South combinations. The combination of flavors represented the melding of the two of their worlds together, and meld well together it did. The cake was arguably the second best part of the wedding, according to the review they provided us on Wedding Wire.

All of the flowers were hand-made using our go-to gum paste from Satin Ice, which is 100% vegan. In addition, we used our favorite colors from The Sugar Art to dust all of our gumpaste flowers in order to bring them to life and make them “pop”, just like the lovely couple did on their special night. When it was all said and done, everyone went home elated for the newlyweds and full of satisfaction from our wedding cake.
